According to Mark 16:15-18 NIV, these are the characteristics of a true believer, some of these things I do not know if we are doing them.
Mark 16:15-18 NIV, He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
Does anyone truly know if there are believers performing such acts as Mark 16 states they will? I have heard people speak in new tongues, at least I thought they were, they may be saying a bunch of gibberish, since there was no one to explain what they said. I may be wrong, but I was told whenever anyone spoke in a new tongue, there should be someone there to explain what was said, according to 1 Corinthians 14:27 but so far, I have not heard anyone explain what was said.
Has anyone truly seen a believer or anyone drive out demons? There are cases where someone supposedly drove a demon out of a person, but in reality, that person was never demon-possessed. Many people did not know that person was never demon-possessed, so they believed an exorcism had occurred, and they told other people they had seen an exorcism performed, but in reality that was not true.
I have seen people pick up venomous snakes with their bare hands, but it was by the tip of the tail and the snake could not bring its head back around fast enough to bite. I have also seen people pick up snakes directly behind the snake’s head, but that was after they used some type of device to hold the snake down, so they could grab the back of the snakes’ head, But I believe this verse is referring to something different than that.
In a religious organization, there was a person laying their hands on a supposedly sick person and the sick person was healed. But very few people at the religious organization knew about the person who was laying their hands on people, and no one knew much about the supposedly sick person, as to whether they were really sick or not. Such things can happen, but it would help if you yourself actually knew that sick person was sick, and do not just take someone’s word for it, because there are lots of deceivers out there.
I personally do not know of anyone who drank deadly poison and lived, I saw a person on TV who supposedly drank a deadly poison, and it did not kill him as far as I know. I did not know anything about that person and still do not know nor do I know anything about the supposedly deadly poison, it may have been a deceptive act.
If someone tells you they have seen any of these things happen, do not believe any of it until you have done a serious investigation, so you will not be deceived, because a lot of deceivers will come, and they will deceive many people.
Do not get upset because you thought you were a believer, and you cannot do all, some, or any of the things a believer should be able to do, well I cannot do any of them either. If you read Mark 16, you will discover the earliest manuscripts of Mark do not have verses 9–20 in them. These verses either did not exist or were left out for a reason, and later writers added them back in or they created these verses themselves for some reason. So, all believers stay faithful until the end in spite of these few verses.
