Everyone was given a spirit when they were born God breath (spirit) into your body. In this post I try to put some light on the subject of this is where demons hang out.
Genesis 2:7 NIV – Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. While this verse is not theologically correct, I hope you understand what I am trying to portray.
Now you know everyone has a spirit from birth, but believers get another spirit called the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost, but the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the spirit you got at birth. The spirit you got at birth is sometimes called a soul.
When a non-believer dies, the soul/spirit they received at birth wonders around on earth looking preferable for non-believers’ body to occupy, but they will occupy an animals’ body. The spirit from a deceased non-believer is called an evil spirit and they will not have a permanent resting place until Jesus returns (the resurrection).
If a believer one day decides to become a non-believer, Jesus will take the holy spirit away from the now non-believer. Any living body (soul/spirit) without the holy spirit is a target for evil spirits to occupy their bodies, but evil spirits do not occupy all non-believers’ bodies.
The following verse is about a non-believer who had evil spirits in his body (soul). Mark 5:6-13 – 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” 9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside.12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out of the man and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
All of the pigs died, but the evil spirits cannot die, so now they are looking for another living non-believer or animal body to occupy their body. From what you have just read, does that make you want to become a believer as soon as possible?
Luke 11:24-26 NIV – 24“ When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
The above verse is the sign of a person who Jesus had come into their lives and gave them the holy spirit, but they decided for some reason or another not to be a believer anymore, which means the holy spirit left their body. They did not know there are evil spirits searching for a non-believer’s body, they may have thought the holy spirit was still present in their body.
There are people possessed with evil spirits today, but since we do not have enough faith to cast them out of a human body, we just give it a medical name and go on about our business.
